Wendy Williams Cohen ז״ל

Wendy Williams Cohen

Wendy Williams Cohen grew up the middle of three sisters in Cleveland, Ohio. Her parents created a strong precedent for community involvement and a commitment to help the Jewish people in all three daughters. A distinguished real estate attorney, Lawrence Williams was honored for his work with ORT America and the Jewish Federation of Greater Cleveland. Dora Rosen Williams was a legal secretary and a committed community volunteer. She was actively involved with ORT as well as Hadassah and the Federation, encouraging her daughters to follow her lead.

In 1978, the Cohen family relocated to Charlotte and became involved in the Jewish community, joining Hadassah and Temple Beth El, where her children, Jennifer Cohen Golynsky, and Thomas Cohen celebrated their respective B’nai Mitzvahs. She supported her children’s involvement in BBYO and encouraged them to take on leadership positions.

Wendy had a large group of friends with whom Judaism was a common bond. She listened well, often giving keen and thoughtful insights that made her an invaluable confidant to her friends and family. Wendy participated in a monthly book club, attended Senior Scholars and looked for opportunities to give back to the community. She volunteered with Jewish Family Services and her connection to the Jewish Federation was strengthened when her daughter and son-in-law were accepted into the Bernstein Leadership Group. Her love of family and the Jewish Community is reflected in the gift of a Hadassah life membership to her daughter Jennifer for her 40th birthday. Many of her close friends and family helped to perpetuate her legacy by making contributions to the Jewish Federation and Jewish Family Services in her memory.

Wendy left her mark on nearly everyone she met in a dynamic, lasting and unforgettable way. Her sharp wit, love of a robust debate and deep knowledge on a number of subjects made any interaction with Wendy memorable.

She is survived by many who loved her, and few will forget her.
